Online quizzes and practice questions: how to use them well

Quizzing yourself is one of the most effective ways to learn, because remembering an answer strengthens the memory. The trick is to use quizzes to learn, not just to score.

Quiz early, not only at the end

  • Take a short quiz right after a lesson to find gaps while the topic is fresh.
  • Quiz again a few days later to check that you still remember.

Read every explanation

  • When you get a question wrong, read why the right answer is right and why yours was wrong.
  • Write the corrected idea in your own words.

Use flashcards for facts and terms

  • One question per card, short answer on the back.
  • Shuffle the cards and put the ones you miss back into the pile.
