Study resources and tips for South African learners
Whether you are preparing for school assessments, matric exams or university tests, these tips are written with South African learners in mind. JeyStudy is an independent study app and is not affiliated with any school, university or government department.
Plan around your assessment calendar
- Ask your school or lecturer for the assessment schedule and write every test, assignment and exam date into one calendar.
- Start revising for exams at least a month ahead and set weekly goals.
Use official past papers
- Past exam papers and memos are published by official education bodies and by many schools and universities — use those sources.
- Work through them under timed conditions and mark yourself honestly with the memo.
Learn in the language you understand best
- If a concept is confusing in English, hearing it in your home language can make it click — then practise the English terms you'll see in the exam.
- JeyStudy has tutors in all 11 South African languages: Jey (English) is free, isiZulu is $0.70, and other South African languages are $0.99 each.
Study smart on limited data
- Download notes and past papers on Wi-Fi so you can study offline.
- Paid JeyStudy plans can download chats as PDFs to read later without data.
Look after your wellbeing
- Exams are stressful. Talk to someone you trust, take breaks and get enough sleep.
- If you are struggling, reach out to a teacher, counsellor or your campus support services.
